This is a full-time Quality Assurance Officer position in Auckland, New Zealand, with a manufacturer of food and dietary supplements. The product range includes dairy and nutritional powders, powdered drink products, sachets, hard capsules and tablets.
The core of the job is managing quality systems and keeping production and exports in line with New Zealand requirements. The employer asks for practical quality systems experience on a food production site, and candidates with only laboratory backgrounds may not be considered suitable.

Key Responsibilities
- Quality systems upkeep: the NP3, GMP and RMP programmes are maintained and improved on a continuing basis.
- Plant compliance: every manufacturing task is checked against internal procedures, MPI requirements, applicable OMARs and the approved RMP.
- Audit hosting: verification visits and audits from third parties, customers, recognised agencies and MPI are coordinated.
- Audit readiness: before each audit, documents are reviewed, records put in order, the site inspected for readiness and departments briefed.
- Internal audit plan: a programme is written and put into practice.
- Internal audit delivery: audits are run without supervision, reported in writing and the findings followed through.
- Record checks, part one: cleaning, packing and manufacturing records.
- Record checks, part two: product release, warehouse and monitoring records.
- Site checks for compliance: export, product release, traceability, hygiene, storage, packing and production.
- Problem handling: CAPA, root cause investigations, customer complaints, non-conforming products and deviations.
- Readiness drills: validation, risk assessments, mock recalls and traceability exercises.
- Export paperwork: E-cert applications and documents handled in the MPI system; eligibility tested against the relevant OMAR requirements; Health Certificates, Transfers, Eligibility Declarations and supporting records prepared and checked.
- Product sign-off: finished goods, intermediates, packaging and raw materials reviewed and approved, with outside testing booked at accredited third-party laboratories and failed results chased up.
- Document and supplier control: labels, formulations, specifications and manufacturing documents checked for accuracy and compliance; supplier approval, supplier paperwork review and supplier performance tracking supported.
- Training and support: warehouse, packing, production and other employees taught quality systems, food safety and GMP; the QA Manager assisted on export compliance, regulatory, food safety and general quality matters.
Requirements & Eligibility
- Education: a Microbiology, Quality Management, Food Safety or Food Science qualification, or one from a related discipline.
- Local QA record: at least two years in quality systems or QA roles within the New Zealand food manufacturing sector.
- Comparable plant background: previous work in a similar operation making, for example, export food products of other kinds, tablets, capsules, sachets, dietary supplements, nutritional powders or dairy products.
- RMP depth: sound knowledge of what New Zealand RMP requirements involve, verification, record review and ongoing maintenance included.
- Systems knowledge: food safety management systems, RMP and GMP, at a good working level.
- OMAR: knowledge of the requirements that apply.
- E-cert: hands-on, practical use of the MPI system.
- Audit coordination: has organised third-party, customer, recognised agency or MPI audits.
- Internal auditing: a demonstrated ability to plan internal audits, run them independently, write the reports and follow corrective actions through.
- Issue management: has handled CAPA, root cause investigations, complaints, non-conformances and deviations.
- English, reading and writing: strong.
- English, comprehension: able to follow export documentation, audit reports, standards and regulations.
- Mandarin: enough to communicate for day-to-day operational coordination.
- Software: proficient with Word, Outlook and Excel from Microsoft.
- Preferred: knowledge of food export requirements for China, Hong Kong or other overseas markets; internal auditor training or qualification; earlier involvement in AsureQuality, MPI or other recognised agency audits; experience with Health Certificate applications, Transfers and Eligibility Declarations; know-how in dairy export processes and MPI export certification; experience in an animal-product or dairy RMP manufacturing facility.
