An established accounting practice in Cairns, Queensland is hiring an Accountant at senior level to own a client portfolio and help the firm keep growing.
What the practice wants to see: genuine Australian public practice experience, solid technical tax knowledge and enough confidence to deal with SME clients directly. In return, you get real client responsibility inside a friendly, team-based office that backs continued learning and progression.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage accounting and tax work for your own SME client portfolio from start to finish
- Prepare tax returns and financial statements with accuracy and efficiency
- Handle Division 7A requirements, Capital Gains Tax (CGT) and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) matters using practical knowledge
- Deal with clients directly on accounting, tax and wider business questions, building long-term professional relationships
- Support clients with accounting and business advisory needs, and take part in advisory projects and other value-added services
- Keep all work at a high professional and compliance standard
- Work with colleagues so clients receive consistent outcomes
- Build your technical and leadership skills to move up into a Manager role
Requirements & Eligibility
- CA or CPA qualified, or close to completing the qualification
- At least 4 years of experience in Australian Public Practice
- Solid hands-on background in Australian tax compliance
- Proven work with SME clients
- Can manage client relationships on your own
- Practical knowledge of Division 7A, CGT and FBT
- Excellent spoken and written communication
- Strong interpersonal skills and professional presentation
- Very high attention to detail, with a dependable work ethic and professional attitude
- A clear willingness to learn and to take on more responsibility, and the ability to work well in a collaborative accounting team
