Bakery Manager

Role: Bakery Manager in charge of how a busy Taranaki bakery department performs, grows and where it heads next.
Beyond baking: you will hold quality standards, organise production, sort out day-to-day operational issues and rally the team behind one shared benchmark of excellence.
Two routes in:
- Skilled Bakers or Senior Bakers who want to move into leadership
- Bakery managers already in the role who want a fresh environment for their ideas and initiative

Key Responsibilities
- Own the bakery department's daily performance and coordinate production so products are ready when customers want them
- Hold baking quality, freshness, presentation and portion control to a consistent standard
- Plan production from sales patterns and expected demand, and track stock, ordering, wastage and availability
- Use your bakery expertise to improve products and processes, and launch new lines that match customer preferences and market opportunities
- Direct, coach, train and support bakery staff, building a culture of accountability, collaboration and high standards
- Support labour planning and productivity in the department
- Stay hands-on with daily baking and lend practical support when required
- Spot operational problems and put effective fixes in place
- Monitor food safety, hygiene and health and safety compliance at work, and keep the bakery tidy, orderly and focused on customers
- Use customer feedback to sharpen products and service
- Partner with the wider store management team on business goals, budgets, cost control and commercial results
- Keep looking for gains in efficiency, product quality and customer satisfaction
Requirements & Eligibility
- Demonstrated professional baking experience gained in a commercial bakery, retail bakery, supermarket or comparable food production setting
- Solid hands-on knowledge of how bakery products are prepared and produced, and proven at producing quality bakery products consistently
- Previous supervisory or management experience is advantageous
- Experienced Bakers and Senior Bakers showing leadership potential are encouraged to apply, as are current Bakery Managers looking for a new challenge
- Keen interest in product development and bakery innovation
- Able to lead, coach, motivate and develop a team
- Strong planning and organisational skills
- Understands stock control, wastage, labour utilisation and how the department performs
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Works independently while contributing to a wider management team, with a hands-on approach to leadership and daily bakery operations
- Strong customer-service focus and commitment to quality, food safety, hygiene and workplace safety
- Works effectively in a busy retail environment
- Willing to relocate to Taranaki, New Zealand
