Bar and Restaurant Manager

A leading hospitality group has a full-time management opening in Southland, New Zealand, advertised as a Hospitality Manager role covering bar and restaurant operations.

Your focus: keeping daily service on track, leading the front-of-house team and holding customer service to a consistent standard. The group wants a hospitality professional with a proven front-of-house management record, strong service skills and the confidence to coordinate a venue's operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run day-to-day front-of-house and venue operations so service flows smoothly, completing any additional operational duties venue management requests
  • Keep the venue compliant with the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, the Gambling Act 2003, liquor licensing requirements, venue policies and workplace safety rules
  • Coach staff on responsible service and handling customers
  • Look after liquor stock, purchasing, stock control and reporting
  • Build efficient rosters covering bar and service operations
  • Keep the venue clean, organised and well presented, with all equipment maintained and working properly
  • Oversee venue records, incident reports and daily operational paperwork
  • Plan and support promotions that grow sales and customer engagement
  • Make sure financial procedures, cash handling and security processes are followed, supporting the management team on business goals and profitability
  • Deliver excellent customer service and keep the venue safe for guests and staff

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in hospitality or front-of-house management
  • A relevant hospitality qualification or proven industry experience
  • Must hold a Duty Manager Certificate or be eligible to obtain one, with knowledge of liquor licensing regulations and responsible service practices
  • Strong grounding in hospitality operations and customer service, including managing teams in a busy venue
  • Experience with TAB and gaming/pokie machines is highly desirable
  • Flexible availability, including weekends, late nights and public holidays, and able to work full-time hours (30–40 hours per week)
  • Strong communication, leadership and problem-solving skills
