Blaster/Painter

Opening: Blaster/Painter, Wangara, Perth, Western Australia. An industrial services company with a long track record is adding people to its workshop crew.

Applicants need proven industrial experience and should understand that the prep underneath decides how well the topcoat performs. Workers from Pakistan and elsewhere should have an English CV that sets out their blasting and coating history.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out industrial grit blasting and surface preparation, bringing surfaces to Sa 2.5 and Sa 3 cleanliness standards
  • Confirm surfaces meet the required cleanliness before any coating goes on
  • Prepare substrates and materials for protective coatings
  • Apply zinc-rich primers, high-build epoxy, polyurethane and other industrial coating systems
  • Spray with airless and conventional equipment
  • Measure wet film with gauges and keep coatings at the required thickness
  • Complete stripe coats and the other specified coating stages
  • Work to QA/QC procedures from blasting through to painting
  • Inspect and maintain blasting and painting equipment, and fix operating problems with blast equipment and the blast room
  • Load and unload blasting trolleys
  • Keep work areas safe, clean and organised

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant industrial blasting and painting work, and workshop experience in industrial surface treatment is essential
  • Proven capability in abrasive blasting to Sa 2.5 and Sa 3 standards
  • Sound knowledge of protective coating and industrial paint systems, and of the whole surface preparation and coating process
  • Hands-on use of zinc-rich primers, polyurethanes and high-build epoxies
  • Confident handling of both airless and conventional spray gear
  • Accurate application of coatings to the thicknesses specified
  • An understanding of wet film measurement and quality control of coatings
  • Strong skills in troubleshooting and maintaining equipment
  • A high level of attention to detail and a commitment to workmanship that stays consistent
  • Forklift licence is desirable
  • Having operated overhead or gantry cranes is desirable
  • Sponsorship may be considered for eligible overseas candidates
