Cafe Manager

Role: full-time Café Manager on Bribie Island, Brisbane, Queensland.

This is not a desk-based supervisory job. The person appointed must be able to make coffee to a high standard, lead and roster a team with confidence, and keep stock, costs, service and the customer experience under control in a busy venue.

The employer will look for three things: a credible, checkable work history, real barista skill and the leadership to take full ownership of the café. There is also scope to shape menus, specials and events that keep regulars coming back. If you are applying from Pakistan, prepare an English CV that shows your management dates clearly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the running of the café from opening to close
  • Step in on the espresso machine yourself and keep every coffee consistent
  • Coach, direct and coordinate baristas and front-of-house staff, and train them in drink preparation, service standards and café procedures
  • Build staff rosters that keep the café properly covered each day
  • Have input into seasonal menus, specials and the drinks list
  • Plan and run live entertainment, pop-ups and private functions, working with suppliers, performers and event partners
  • Check inventory, order supplies and keep stock at the right levels
  • Keep track of running costs and help with basic financial admin
  • Meet food safety, hygiene and workplace safety obligations
  • Keep the venue clean, orderly and welcoming
  • Deal with customer feedback and sort out service problems quickly
  • Develop strong customer relationships and a positive culture in the café

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 2 years managing a café or restaurant
  • Solid practical barista experience on commercial espresso equipment
  • Diploma in Hospitality for the applicable Queensland sponsorship pathways
  • For sponsorship eligibility, minimum 3 years of Australian hospitality management experience gained after completing the relevant diploma
  • Verifiable evidence of your qualifications and employment history
  • Demonstrated capability in leading a team and managing staff
  • Strong skills in rostering, organisation and time management
  • A working understanding of stock control, cost-of-goods and basic financial processes
  • Experience coordinating events or developing menus is an advantage
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • A reliable, flexible attitude to evening and weekend shifts
  • Current food-safety certification, plus valid work rights or eligibility for sponsorship
  • Work State: Queensland. Sponsorship: available for eligible candidates
