Residential aged care providers across Australia need reliable Aged Care Workers and Personal Care Assistants who hold suitable qualifications. This vacancy is based in Melbourne, VIC.
Day-to-day focus: helping older residents with ordinary daily activities while protecting their comfort, safety, independence, dignity and quality of life.
What is assessed: a blend of qualifications, hands-on care experience, communication skills and professional behaviour. Your credentials and background can be reviewed so that openings with providers are matched to your capabilities and experience.
Where a police certificate is requested, applicants in Pakistan should allow time to obtain a police character certificate.
Key Responsibilities
- Give residents compassionate care that is respectful and person-centred
- Help with showering, dressing, toileting, grooming and personal hygiene
- Support safe transfers and mobility, making correct use of mobility aids and equipment
- Assist at mealtimes, including hydration and any feeding support residents require
- Be a source of companionship and emotional support, helping residents through daily routines and meaningful activities and encouraging them to stay independent and involved
- Follow each individual care plan and workplace procedures, including manual handling, infection control and safety requirements
- Watch for changes in residents' emotional, behavioural or physical wellbeing and report them
- Keep documentation, records and care notes accurate and up to date
- Communicate well with families, nurses, carers and allied health professionals
- Respect each resident's personal preferences, cultural considerations, privacy and dignity, helping to keep the care setting respectful, supportive and safe
Requirements & Eligibility
- Relevant qualification in personal care, nursing assistance, healthcare or aged care
- Previous experience in disability support, residential care or aged care preferred
- Practical understanding of the principles of person-centred care
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including a good level of English suited to communicating with residents and in the workplace
- Compassionate, professional and reliable, able to build respectful relationships with care teams and residents
- Able to work to care plans, procedures and workplace standards
- Willing to undergo required police checks, health assessments and screening
- Flexible across different shifts, including weekends when required
- Offshore applicants may be considered for employer sponsorship subject to eligibility
