An established Victorian construction business needs a capable Carpenter for its residential and commercial building projects.

Scope of work:

  • Structural timber framing and flooring
  • External works
  • Fittings and repairs

What you must bring: genuine carpentry expertise that shows in practical construction work, accurate installation and quality workmanship. You should read plans with confidence, keep measurements precise and produce reliable results on site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read architectural and construction drawings and plan the carpentry work from them
  • Work out sizes, materials and the order of tasks using the project specifications
  • Measure, mark, cut and shape timber and other building materials
  • Build wall frames, roof structures, floor joists and sub-floor systems, fixing structural timber members in true alignment and fastening them firmly
  • Fit timber door and window frames and the building components that go with them
  • Carry out fascia, wall cladding, roof sheathing and similar exterior timber work
  • Install prefabricated and timber fittings to suit project needs, adjusting parts on site for an accurate fit and finish
  • Repair, alter and replace timber structures that are damaged
  • Put up and take down temporary timber formwork for concrete works
  • Handle hand tools, power tools and construction equipment safely and efficiently
  • Keep workmanship to a high standard and follow site safety procedures at all times

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Certificate III in Carpentry, or an equivalent qualification that is recognised
  • Proven practical experience on residential and/or commercial construction work
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of structural carpentry and timber framing
  • Has done general carpentry, installation and repair work
  • Competent with carpentry hand tools, power tools and related equipment
  • Reads construction drawings and specifications accurately
  • Strong at measuring, cutting, fitting and installing
  • Understands construction methods and workplace safety procedures
  • Can work independently and still contribute effectively to a construction team
  • Willing to meet the relevant Australian construction and site requirements; suitable qualified candidates may be considered for visa sponsorship
