Cuisine: Indian and intercontinental. Location: Far North, Northland, New Zealand. Employer: a local hospitality business.

What counts most here is what you can do at the stove. The business wants an experienced Chef who has a proven record in both styles of cooking and who brings real experience, steady results and confidence to a busy commercial kitchen.

Day to day you will own the prep and cooking. On top of that, you will have input into new menus, how the kitchen is organised, stock control and the standards food must meet. Have an English CV ready that names the kitchens you have worked in and the dishes you cooked there.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cook Indian and intercontinental food with professional methods, so every plate tastes, looks and is portioned the same way at the same quality
  • Run each day's prep and keep the kitchen organised, with work flowing smoothly through prep and service
  • Contribute ideas for menus, specials and brand-new dishes
  • Keep track of how ingredients are used to help control food costs, and place orders so stock stays at the right level
  • Work in step with the rest of the kitchen team on food prep and offer hands-on guidance to other staff where needed
  • Apply allergen-management, hygiene and food safety rules and keep the kitchen safe, clean and in order
  • Help the kitchen perform reliably when service gets busy

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Demonstrated experience working professionally as a Chef
  • Proven practical experience cooking Indian and intercontinental cuisine, backed by strong food-prep and commercial kitchen skills
  • Able to handle prep and cooking duties on your own
  • Understands food-cost management, menu planning, stock control and kitchen inventory procedures
  • Thorough understanding of hygiene and food safety requirements
  • Keeps food presentation and quality consistent
  • Communicates well, works well in a team, and is organised and reliable
  • Willing to work weekends and evenings
  • A relevant hospitality or cookery qualification is advantageous; café or restaurant experience is advantageous
  • Experience creating specials and menu items is advantageous; experience training, guiding or supervising kitchen staff is advantageous
  • Overseas candidates must meet the New Zealand employment and immigration requirements that apply
