A premium hospitality operation in Melbourne, Victoria wants an accomplished Senior Chef for its kitchen leadership team. The role suits a chef who has moved beyond purely hands-on cooking and is ready to prove they can lead people, hold exceptional standards and help set the direction of a professional kitchen.
You will join an experienced culinary team where detail, consistency and technical excellence are essential. Selection weighs your professional background, qualifications and career achievements, with preference for candidates who can clearly show experience in high-end kitchens. Michelin-starred or comparable international fine-dining experience is highly regarded.
Note: candidates must currently be working in Australia, whether they come from Pakistan or elsewhere.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the kitchen team through prep and service, monitoring food preparation and cooking from start to finish
- Coach, supervise and develop commis and junior chefs, giving ongoing hands-on training and mentoring
- Hold food quality, presentation and consistency to an exceptional standard
- Back up the Head Chef on daily kitchen operations
- Contribute to menu planning, recipe development, culinary innovation and the creation and rollout of new dishes
- Make sure every team member follows kitchen procedures consistently
- Look after ingredient ordering, stock levels and rotation, and help with food costing and control of kitchen resources
- Keep operational and compliance records accurate and food safety, hygiene and workplace health standards consistently in place
- Work smoothly with front-of-house staff during service
- Find ways to raise efficiency and culinary standards, and set the tone for a respectful, disciplined and professional kitchen
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 5–7 years' experience working in professional kitchens
- Minimum 2–3 years' experience as a senior chef, sous chef or in a supervisory capacity
- Proven background in fine dining, Michelin-starred or equivalent high-end kitchens
- Demonstrated career progression with growing professional responsibility
- Strong technical skills across contemporary cooking methods
- Proven ability to lead and develop a team, and to train, mentor and motivate kitchen staff
- Strong knowledge of kitchen compliance, food safety and hygiene
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, and the composure to keep standards high in demanding services
- Experience in inventory management, stock control and kitchen costing
- Understanding of sustainable kitchen practices and contemporary food trends
- Relevant culinary qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent professional training preferred
- Strong commitment to consistency, quality and continuous improvement
- Currently working in Australia with a valid visa, and able to provide appropriate evidence of professional experience and qualifications
- Must satisfy applicable requirements if considered for employer sponsorship
