An established hospitality group in Nelson needs an Asian Chef with real, provable skill in professional food preparation who turns out consistent results in a busy commercial kitchen.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cook Asian dishes to established recipes and quality standards, applying practical knowledge of Asian cooking techniques and food preparation
  • Plan, organise and coordinate the daily food preparation and cooking workload
  • Help with menu planning and with estimating food and labour costs
  • Check the portioning, presentation, consistency and quality of each dish
  • Get sauces, ingredients and other service components ready
  • Order and manage food supplies to match what the kitchen needs
  • Run commercial ovens, grills and other cooking equipment, keeping cooking temperatures and food handling standards correct
  • Apply workplace hygiene and food safety procedures consistently, and support preservation, freezing and storage of food where required
  • Take special dietary needs into account in every meal
  • Raise kitchen issues and preparation concerns with management, reporting quality problems and suggesting practical improvements where appropriate
  • Work closely with the kitchen and service teams throughout daily operations
  • Show other staff the right cooking methods and techniques, and help train and develop kitchen team members when required
  • Run a tidy, efficient and organised workspace

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Relevant formal cookery qualification and/or a minimum of three years relevant professional experience
  • Demonstrated professional experience cooking Asian cuisine, with genuine hands-on skills you can show
  • Strong grasp of the way a commercial kitchen runs
  • Able to reproduce dishes consistently from established recipes, and experienced in upholding food quality and presentation standards
  • Understanding of food safety, food hygiene and safe kitchen practice
  • Works effectively in a structured, high-performing team
  • Pays strong attention to detail
  • Sticks to established kitchen systems, procedures and instructions
  • Dependable and reliable, with professional and ethical conduct at work
  • Clear communication with colleagues and managers
  • Stays composed and productive in busy services, and willing to take responsibility and contribute to operational improvements
