Stanley, North West Tasmania: a Commercial Chef with solid experience in professional food preparation and service is needed. The right person has demonstrated technical skill, good kitchen discipline and the confidence to take responsibility at peak service times.
Day to day, you will contribute to kitchen operations, hold food standards steady, assist with menu development and help build a positive, efficient work environment.
It is best suited to a Chef who can clearly demonstrate and verify their qualifications and work history, giving a firm base for a hospitality career in Australia. If a police certificate is requested, applicants in Pakistan can obtain a police character certificate.
Key Responsibilities
- Before each service, sort out the prep that is needed and keep mise-en-place effective across your allocated sections
- Take sole charge of a kitchen section when service is busy
- Cook many kinds of dishes to the established quality standard, applying professional methods for consistent results across services
- Present every plate with consistent care for appearance, portions and quality, and monitor food from preparation right through to presentation
- Contribute to menu planning, seasonal offerings and the creation of new dishes
- Support purchasing, ordering and stock management, with proper food storage, stock rotation and temperature controls
- Track how ingredients are used and act sensibly to minimise wastage
- Hold the kitchen to high cleanliness standards and maintain personal hygiene, meeting Australian food safety, hygiene and workplace safety requirements
- Cooperate with front-of-house and kitchen colleagues, communicating clearly for accurate, timely food service
- Keep operations running smoothly at high-volume times
- Teach, guide and back up junior kitchen team members, passing on appropriate cooking techniques and preparation methods to less-experienced staff
- Stick to workplace recipes, procedures and operational standards
- Help shape a kitchen culture that is respectful, dependable and customer-focused
Requirements & Eligibility
- Holds a recognised Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, or equivalent
- Minimum five years working in relevant commercial kitchen roles
- Solid, demonstrable experience as a professional cook, with evidence available for your qualifications and work history
- Works confidently without supervision in a commercial kitchen and has shown they can run a section during service
- Hands-on understanding of menu development and seasonal dishes
- Familiar with stock control, food storage and keeping kitchen wastage down
- Thorough knowledge of food safety and hygiene procedures
- Maintains consistent quality when under pressure
- Communicates well and works strongly in a team
- Capable of supervising, training or supporting junior members of kitchen staff
- Well organised, manages time well and pays attention to detail, with a professional attitude and commitment to workplace standards
- Can work evenings, weekends and public holidays
- Must meet the Australian employment and sponsorship eligibility requirements that apply
