Workplace: a busy highway food operation in Wubin, in Western Australia's Wheatbelt. Extras: meals during work hours, internet access and accommodation on site are available.

This is not an ordinary line position. The business has a genuine, established need, and it wants a proven hospitality professional whose leadership, experience and skills fit that need. You will push the kitchen forward by mixing hands-on cooking with day-to-day operational duties, coordination of the team and improvements to the menu. Your own menu ideas are welcome, as long as quality and consistency hold up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the kitchen's overall results, organising daily prep and operations and maintaining professional standards in every service
  • Cook quality meals from a varied commercial menu, turning out steaks and other core dishes well every time with consistent portions, presentation and quality
  • Assess the current menu and suggest changes, create new dine-in, takeaway and dinner options and freshen up the breakfast range
  • Plan prep ahead of high-volume periods and keep kitchen workflows efficient
  • Track inventory, arrange restocking and control how food is used so waste is kept down
  • Oversee cleanliness, hygiene and food safety requirements
  • Lead and back up the kitchen crew during service, helping to train and develop staff
  • Work alongside management to lift the food operation as a whole

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Demonstrated professional experience working as a Chef in a busy high-volume or commercial kitchen
  • Strong food preparation and cooking skills, including a proven ability to cook steaks to a high standard
  • Background in menu improvement or menu development
  • Can manage kitchen duties independently, with strong team coordination and leadership skills
  • Performs well at a fast pace and pays close attention to consistency and food quality
  • Good organisational and communication skills
  • Able to work a rotating roster and willing to live on-site as required
  • Committed to food hygiene and workplace safety standards
  • Relevant culinary qualification and/or strong equivalent experience in the industry
