Position overview first. A long-established precision CNC manufacturer in Sydney, NSW is hiring several CNC Machinists for its evening shift.
Your main task is to set up, program and operate CNC machines, and setting and operating make up 70% of the role. Jobs are a combination of production and prototype work for the manufacturing, oil and gas, construction, defence and infrastructure sectors. Experience on any type of CNC machine will be considered, and the employer will structure the role to suit the person selected.
To be eligible, you need 4+ years of recent programming and setting experience. Only applicants already in Australia with work rights can apply. Visa sponsorship will be considered for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities
- First, prepare tools, work holdings and jobs for the relevant machining centre
- Next, program, set and run the CNC machine, whether a CNC mill, CNC lathe or sliding head lathe
- Then carry out final inspection and measuring of each part produced
- Design work holdings for prototype and production jobs
- Handle production work mixed with prototype work for customers in manufacturing, oil & gas, construction, defence and infrastructure
- Continue developing CNC programming skills
- Take responsibility for the machines you are familiar with from the start
Requirements & Eligibility
- Experience: 4+ years as a machinist or CNC machinist
- Recent experience: 4+ years programming and setting CNC machines
- Setting and operating CNC machines with confidence (70% of the role)
- Qualification: Fitting and Turning or similar
- Software: programming with CAM software
- Strong computer skills, and the ability to read and interpret engineering documents and drawings
- Attitude: eager to learn and grow, with an A++ work ethic and a team-player mindset where "not my job" does not apply
- Able to work individually and in the team
- Candidates must have the right to work in Australia
- Desirable: Proficiency with a CAD-CAM
- Desirable: Proficiency with Fusion360
- Desirable: Proficiency with Okuma OSP
