Diesel Motor Mechanic

Key Responsibilities

  • Find and fix faults on heavy vehicles and diesel engines
  • Service, repair and maintain diesel-powered systems, including scheduled services and preventative maintenance programs
  • Track down electrical, hydraulic and mechanical faults, using diagnostic software and tools to pinpoint them
  • Inspect heavy vehicles to work out what maintenance or repairs they need
  • Finish repair jobs efficiently and to a professional standard
  • Keep service records, job sheets and maintenance paperwork accurate
  • Follow workshop procedures and the health and safety rules that apply
  • Keep the workspace tidy, organised and safe
  • Talk with colleagues about faults, repairs and upcoming maintenance
  • Work safely both in the workshop and outdoors

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience servicing and repairing heavy vehicles
  • A relevant mechanical qualification and/or demonstrable industry experience
  • Full Class 1 driver's licence or equivalent; a Class 4 driver's licence is advantageous
  • Strong practical understanding of heavy vehicle systems and diesel engines
  • Proven fault-finding across electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems
  • Has used diagnostic software and equipment
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Professional, reliable and safety-conscious at work
  • Can complete service paperwork and keep records accurate
  • Physically able to carry out manual mechanical work
  • Willing to complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, and able to pass a pre-employment medical assessment
  • Able to pass a Ministry of Justice (MOJ) check
  • Can supply genuine, verifiable documents for identity, employment and qualifications
  • Existing New Zealand work rights, or eligibility for employer-sponsored work authorization
