Disability Support Worker

Healthcare · Geraldton, Geraldton, Gascoyne & Midwest WA, Australia · Full-Time · $40 - $42/hr

Location: Geraldton and the wider Gascoyne & Midwest region, Western Australia. Role: experienced Support Worker for one participant, a young person with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Trust, consistency and person-centred care come first. As a capable, verified care professional, you will give structured, dependable assistance that builds daily living skills, communication, confidence and independence, in a setting kept safe, respectful and supportive of personal growth and wellbeing.

Shifts are flexible across daytime and after-school schedules. Eligible international applicants who can show relevant experience, strong communication skills and a real commitment to disability support can be sponsored. If a police certificate is requested, applicants from Pakistan can arrange a police character certificate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a steady, respectful and trusting bond with the participant, giving dependable one-on-one support built around their own needs and routines
  • Build independence through everyday tasks and skill-building, and encourage involvement in meaningful activities that grow confidence and engagement
  • Help with communication challenges and sensory or behavioural needs, using positive support approaches and suitable redirection strategies when required
  • Read and understand Behaviour Support Plans and care instructions, and follow them closely
  • Notice shifts in behaviour and respond patiently and professionally
  • Keep families, carers and the wider support network clearly informed
  • Write accurate shift notes, reports and required documentation

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 2 years working professionally in disability support or a comparable care setting
  • Demonstrated work with individuals who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), including participants who need help with communication and behaviour management
  • Can confidently carry out established care plans and support strategies
  • Strong English skills, with clear communication in professional settings
  • A dependable way of working and a commitment to supporting the participant consistently
  • Patient, understanding and compassionate towards people receiving disability care
  • Works on their own while being a positive member of a support team
  • Relevant qualifications or practical disability support experience preferred
  • Sponsorship opportunities exist for suitable, verified applicants who have the required experience and skills
