Duty Manager

Darwin, NT: a busy licensed venue needs a Duty Manager who can run the floor and lead the frontline team, keeping each shift safe, efficient and professional.

Your remit covers:

  • people leadership and customer service
  • compliance and financial controls
  • day-to-day operational calls

While rostered on, you are the most senior person on site, backing staff in hospitality, gaming and functions and handling whatever customers or operations throw at you. If you are applying from Pakistan, prepare an English CV, plus a police character certificate if a police certificate is requested.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hold overall charge of the venue on each rostered shift, including the opening and closing routines
  • Lead the food and beverage, gaming and functions teams: give direction, supervise, support, hand out daily duties and keep enough staff on the floor
  • Contribute to rostering, staff training and development, and performance management
  • Keep service levels and the look of the venue high
  • Make sure the venue stays within liquor, gaming, responsible gambling, food safety and workplace safety rules
  • Look after security: procedures, keys and restricted-access zones, plus a proper response to incidents and security situations
  • Watch over cash: tills, floats, the safe balance and gaming transactions, closing each shift with a reconciliation and an accurate financial handover
  • Deal with complaints from customers and sort out operational or behavioural problems
  • Back functions, entertainment and promotions
  • Keep track of stock, equipment, cleanliness and anything needing maintenance
  • Produce accurate reports on shifts, incidents and operations
  • Put workplace policies into practice, spot ways the venue can perform better and keep the atmosphere safe, professional and positive

Requirements & Eligibility

  • AQF Diploma-level qualification that is relevant (or an equivalent), together with at least one year of relevant full-time-equivalent experience
  • Alternatively, at least three years of relevant full-time-equivalent experience managing in hospitality, hotels or licensed clubs
  • A record of leading and supervising hospitality staff, with past experience in a licensed venue
  • Understanding of how gaming and licensed hospitality operations work
  • Solid cash-handling and reconciliation background, plus a sound grasp of venue security and operational controls
  • Strong at leading and managing teams
  • Excellent at customer service and resolving conflict
  • Writes clear reports and communicates well in writing
  • Current NT Responsible Service of Alcohol certification
  • Current Responsible Service of Gambling training, or prepared to complete the required training
  • NT Gaming Machine Manager licence preferred, or willing and eligible to obtain the licence
  • Can work evening, weekend and public-holiday shifts
  • Can meet the relevant licensing, probity and employment requirements; overseas applicants must satisfy applicable qualification, experience, English-language and visa criteria
  • Suitably qualified candidates may be offered visa sponsorship, including eligible applicants who may qualify through an NT DAMA pathway, subject to every required approval
