Position: Electrician or Junior Electrician in Leichhardt, Sydney, New South Wales, for someone ready to go beyond standard electrical work into standby power, generator controls and critical building systems.
On commercial sites you will handle generator testing, electrical upgrades, fault-finding and control systems, backed by engineering support and room to grow your technical skills. Your trade knowledge, practical background and ability to show genuine electrical experience are central. It suits problem-solvers who like working with equipment and learning how complex power systems run, offering a pathway into specialist work on important commercial infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and service the electrical parts of standby generator systems, including electrical work for generator modifications and upgrades
- Test generators and emergency power during building shutdowns, and support AFSS-related generator testing
- Find faults in generator controllers, PLCs and control circuits
- Troubleshoot and test Automatic Transfer Switches and the switchgear linked to them
- Work from single-line diagrams and electrical schematics, and complete wiring and testing of control systems
- Help with commissioning generators and upgrading systems
- Look into technical problems and put practical fixes in place
- Work on your own while keeping the wider team informed, and alongside engineers on specialist generator projects
- Assist with telemetry and control-system applications
- Take part in scheduled night and weekend work, with extra shutdown and overtime opportunities available
Requirements & Eligibility
- Current NSW Electrical Licence is essential
- Proven hands-on experience in the electrical trade, backed by verifiable employment history that shows genuine electrical skills
- Can interpret single-line diagrams and electrical schematics
- Strong practical approach to electrical work, and confident with trade and electrical tools
- Diagnoses problems and works towards practical solutions
- Comfortable working independently when required, and contributes effectively in a small team
- Generator controller experience with Deep Sea, Cummins, CAT or Woodward is advantageous
- Interested in standby power systems, telemetry, control wiring and PLCs
- Must be based in Sydney or willing to relocate
- Full NSW Driver Licence required, and able to drive a manual vehicle
- Available for night and weekend work from time to time
