Farming Manager

Senior farm leadership role in Koojan (Northam & Wheatbelt, WA). The business behind it is an established agricultural company with experienced people in farming, agronomy and livestock, and it wants someone who has run big farming operations and can prove it.
You will need the leadership, forward planning and commercial sense to look after significant assets, direct cropping, pasture, fodder and irrigation work, and help decide where the operation goes next. The employer expects results you can measure: better productivity, smarter use of land, tighter operations and stronger financials. You also get a large degree of independence.
On offer: approximately $150,000 base salary, a new dual-cab vehicle, a five-bedroom house on the farm and bonuses linked to performance. Applicants from Pakistan should prepare an English CV that shows the size of the operations they have managed.
Key Responsibilities
- Take the lead on farming across a large spread of agricultural properties and answer for both operational and financial results
- Manage the people: supervisors, overseers and machinery operators, including workforce planning, training, performance and growth
- Draw up each season's operating plan from production targets, available resources and conditions on the ground
- Run the cropping, pasture, fodder and irrigation programs, with oats, barley, wheat, vetch and irrigated sorghum in production
- Own the yearly budget, forecasts, spending and capital investment; keep tabs on productivity, how crops and pastures perform, and running costs
- Join agronomists in improving soil health, establishing pastures and lifting crop results, using sustainable land management and soil improvement methods
- Match fodder needs to the broader livestock and feed side of the business
- Weigh up and put in place land improvement and productivity projects, and drive capital works aimed at efficiency and long-term asset value
- Apply GPS, precision agriculture and digital farm-management technology, turning operational data into well-informed plans
- Build a workplace where safety, accountability and continuous improvement come first
- Oversee contractors, suppliers and agricultural service providers
- Communicate effectively with the internal operations and agriculture teams
Requirements & Eligibility
- Senior-level background in farming or agricultural operations that you can demonstrate
- Has managed cropping, livestock or mixed farming enterprises
- Deep practical understanding of how large-scale agricultural production systems work
- Proven grasp of agronomy, chemical use and weed control
- Comfortable with farm budgets, forecasts, production planning and cost control
- Strong command of agricultural machinery and modern farming methods, and hands-on use of GPS, precision agriculture and digital farm-management systems
- Builds and leads capable agricultural teams
- Sound commercial and operational judgement when making decisions
- Can show a history of responsible farm management with measurable results
- Strong at planning, communicating and managing stakeholders
- Tertiary qualification in Agriculture, Agribusiness or a related field highly regarded
- ChemCert or an equivalent qualification advantageous
- HR or MC licence advantageous
- Current driver's licence required
- Must meet applicable Australian employment and visa requirements; the right candidate can receive visa sponsorship
