Field Service Technician - Agriculture

Role: Field Service Technician for a leading New Zealand business that services agricultural machinery.
Core of the job: diagnosing faults, repairing complex machinery and getting essential equipment running again. Your customers are farmers and rural contractors, and the work runs from everyday servicing to complicated breakdowns. Combining problem-solving with customer contact, you can become known as a machinery specialist people trust.
Who fits: technicians with proven diesel, heavy automotive or agricultural machinery experience whose qualifications and skills can be verified, and who want a professional, technology-focused service environment.
Training: continuing manufacturer and technical courses keep your knowledge up to date as farm machines grow more advanced and electronically controlled. Technicians in Pakistan should prepare an English CV.
Key Responsibilities
- Track down mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic faults on agricultural machines, using specialist electronic and manufacturer-approved diagnostic tools
- Service, maintain and repair tractors, harvesting gear and specialised farm machinery
- Attend breakdowns on customer sites and fix machines in the field
- Diagnose problems logically to find the right repair
- Use safe, efficient repair methods and keep workmanship high
- Test machines after repair to confirm each fault is properly resolved
- Record each service, write job reports and keep technical documents in order
- Report what you found and what you recommend to customers, and maintain positive working relationships with farmers, contractors and other machine users
- Handle field jobs professionally with little supervision, and collaborate with fellow technicians and support staff on difficult problems
- Continue training to deepen your knowledge of current farm machinery systems
- Take part in the on-call and breakdown roster when required
Requirements & Eligibility
- Relevant qualification in Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Automotive Engineering or Heavy Machinery
- Qualification level: NZQF Level 4 or higher, or a recognised overseas equivalent
- Proven hands-on work with agricultural tractors or heavy machinery
- Can demonstrate diagnosis and repair of mechanical systems, with strong fault-finding across hydraulic, electrical and electronic systems
- Has operated or worked with electronic diagnostic equipment
- Knows modern farm machinery and electronically controlled systems
- Highly desirable: previous field service experience
- Advantageous: agricultural machinery dealership experience
- Forage harvester experience is an advantage but not mandatory
- Strong communication and customer service skills, and able to work independently in customer-facing field settings
- Professional attitude, strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
- Dependable approach to safety, documentation and service standards
- Willing to take on ongoing technical training and to join an on-call service roster
- Overseas applicants must be able to show evidence of relevant qualifications and hands-on experience
