Employer: a Victorian truck and heavy vehicle workshop in North Geelong that puts quality first and is expanding its crew.
Position: Heavy Diesel Mechanic, qualified and experienced, working directly on the job rather than behind a desk. Your workload mixes scheduled services, repair jobs, fault diagnosis, maintenance and warranty claims across heavy trucks, trailers and other commercial vehicles. Mechanics who take pride in their workmanship and enjoy cracking difficult faults will fit in well.

Key Responsibilities
- Service heavy diesel units on a routine basis and complete their mechanical maintenance and repairs
- Fix trucks, trailers and similar heavy vehicles, taking on warranty jobs as required
- Work out complicated mechanical problems, plus electrical and electronic faults
- Pin down why a fault happened and advise what repair is needed
- Swap or repair electrical and mechanical parts
- Complete safety inspections and preventative maintenance
- Use the diagnostic gear and equipment supplied in the workshop
- Put vehicles and equipment through testing after a repair to confirm the work meets technical standards
- Log every completed job accurately
- Comply with workshop rules and safety steps, keeping the floor and bays spotless
- Lend a hand to workshop colleagues whenever needed
- Attend technical training programs
Requirements & Eligibility
- At least 5 years' practical heavy diesel mechanical work
- Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Mechanical Technology or equivalent
- Background in servicing trucks and heavy vehicles and carrying out repairs on them
- Strong skills in diagnosing and troubleshooting
- Having worked on several heavy vehicle makes is desirable
- Earlier truck and trailer repair work is highly regarded
- Thorough knowledge of how heavy vehicle mechanical systems work
- Comfortable working solo or in a team
- Very detail-focused and dedicated to producing quality work
- Strong safety awareness
- Good communicator and problem-solver
- HC Licence desirable, and Automotive Air Conditioning Licence desirable
