An Indian restaurant near Dunedin, New Zealand, has a vacancy for an Indian Curry / Tandoori Chef. The position is permanent and full-time, and the weekly hours are at least 30.
The work falls into clear parts. To begin with, running lunch and dinner services during busy periods, alone or with the team. Next, training kitchen staff and apprentices in techniques and menu preparation. After that, maintaining quality, presentation and hygiene under New Zealand food safety rules. Key Responsibilities
- Take charge of lunch and dinner when the restaurant is full, cooking solo or leading the team
- Oversee kitchen staff throughout each shift
- Teach apprentices and staff the cooking techniques and menu preparation the kitchen uses
- Follow New Zealand food safety rules at every stage: preparation, presentation and hygiene
- Give input on the menu and propose new dishes
- Track stock, lower waste and hold costs at an efficient level
- Speak clearly with diners and colleagues so the team stays positive
Requirements & Eligibility
- Chef-level or more senior experience in a commercial kitchen, at least 2 years
- Strong abilities in leadership, communication and organisation
- Works efficiently when under pressure and delivers quality that stays consistent
- Available mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays, and committed to long-term employment
