Position: Maintenance & Reliability Lead (advertised as Industrial Maintenance & Reliability Manager), full-time, Perth WA.
Employer: a manufacturing operation in Western Australia that is in a growth phase.
Purpose of the role: lift plant reliability and move maintenance onto a structured, proactive footing. No complete maintenance system is in place, so you will design and refine how maintenance is run. The job blends hands-on technical fault-finding with planning, asset management, automation, contractor coordination and continuous improvement.
Working with: production teams, equipment manufacturers and technical specialists, to raise plant availability, cut repeat failures and set practices that support long-term growth. Key Responsibilities
- Drive the maintenance and reliability strategy for the whole facility, taking accountability for plant reliability, equipment availability and maintenance results
- Build preventative and predictive maintenance programs with clear structure, and plan schedules around equipment criticality and production needs
- Attend equipment breakdowns and technical faults, and diagnose the cause
- Carry out mechanical and electrical maintenance yourself, limited to your qualifications and authorised scope
- Fault-find on PLCs, HMIs, sensors, motors, variable-speed drives, instrumentation and automated control systems
- Trace faults through electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and instrumentation systems
- Track repeat failures, lead root-cause investigations and put sustainable corrective actions and reliability improvements in place
- Keep equipment histories, work orders, maintenance records and asset registers accurate
- Roll out and refine CMMS processes, covering MEX and other relevant equipment maintenance systems
- Set inspection routines, service intervals and maintenance standards, written up as practical procedures, checklists and technical records
- Improve how critical spare parts are identified, held and managed in inventory
- Coordinate manufacturers, suppliers, specialist contractors and technical service providers
- Assist with equipment installation, commissioning, upgrades, modifications and handover
- Work with production operators on equipment care and early fault detection, helping improve plant safety, response times, uptime and operational efficiency
- Make sure every maintenance task follows isolation, lockout/tagout, permit-to-work and safety procedures, and that only appropriately qualified people do licensed or specialist work
Requirements & Eligibility
- Recognised trade qualification in mechanical fitting, fitting and turning, industrial electrical, mechatronics, electromechanical engineering or a related technical discipline
- Strong industrial maintenance experience in production, processing or manufacturing environments, with demonstrated hands-on diagnosis and repair of industrial equipment
- Practical knowledge of industrial control and automation systems
- Experience with PLCs, HMIs, VSDs, industrial motors, sensors and instrumentation
- Strong fault-finding and mechanical maintenance capability, plus knowledge of preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance practices
- Track record of reducing equipment downtime and improving plant reliability
- Experience working with a CMMS or computerised maintenance management system
- MEX, Buhler or comparable maintenance-system experience will be highly regarded
- Ability to create maintenance documentation, systems and processes from the ground up
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical and root-cause problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage suppliers, contractors, manufacturers and competing maintenance priorities, with strong organisational and communication skills
- Experience in FMCG, food, pet food, animal feed, grain, milling or similar manufacturing industries will be advantageous
- Experience with batching, mixing, extrusion, drying, cooling, coating, conveying or automated packing equipment will be advantageous
- Experience with condition monitoring, reliability engineering, commissioning or equipment upgrades will be highly regarded
- Understanding of HACCP, GMP or controlled manufacturing environments will be advantageous
- Ability to work safely within your relevant licences, qualifications and authorised scope
- Australian work rights or eligibility for employer-sponsored employment, plus eligibility to meet Australian visa, skills-assessment, licensing and qualification recognition requirements
- Willingness to relocate to Western Australia
