Maintenance Foreperson

Trade · Marlborough, Marlborough, New Zealand · Full-Time · $25/hr

Position: Roading Maintenance Supervisor (listed as Maintenance Foreperson) in Marlborough, New Zealand.

What you will run: day-to-day road maintenance across a demanding network. The employer wants someone who leads from the front, keeps a small team well organised and stays in control when priorities shift.

Why it matters: the aim is to match genuine hands-on roading experience to the right role, rather than offer just another listing. If you are applying from Pakistan, prepare an English CV and keep your licence and employment records in order.

Key Responsibilities

  • Crew leadership: coordinate a small road maintenance crew and give team members hands-on guidance and direction
  • Planning: set out daily work programmes, rank maintenance needs by priority and help deliver maintenance programmes effectively
  • Oversight: keep track of routine and urgent maintenance activities, and check work quality, crew performance and contractor activity
  • Inspections: check roads for defects, hazards and possible safety risks, then decide on suitable corrective action
  • Data capture: log defects and maintenance details using GPS and tablet systems
  • Emergencies: organise urgent road repairs and emergency responses
  • Compliance: meet health, safety and traffic management requirements at all times
  • Liaison: stay in contact with clients, contractors and operational teams
  • After hours: join an on-call roster for incidents and emergency call-outs, including night-time incidents, animal hazards and other urgent road problems
  • Judgement: make operational decisions on your own when the situation calls for it

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Background: proven experience in road maintenance or civil construction
  • Supervision: previous experience in a roading supervisory or foreman-level position, with demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate a small crew
  • Technical knowledge: strong understanding of road construction materials and maintenance techniques, plus an understanding of traffic management requirements
  • Communication: good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Organisation: strong planning, organising and decision-making ability; able to work independently as conditions change
  • Technology: comfortable with tablets, GPS and basic computer systems
  • Systems: experience with AWM or RAMM is highly advantageous
  • Safety: strong commitment to health and safety in the workplace, and able to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Licence: Class 2 New Zealand driver's licence or equivalent
  • Overseas experience: relevant international roading experience will be considered
  • Records: able to provide verifiable employment, qualification and experience records
  • Sponsorship: available for suitable international candidates
