Key Responsibilities
- Provide person-centred, compassionate nursing and clinical care in mental health
- Complete full mental health and psychiatric assessments
- Draw up a care plan for each person, carry it out and evaluate the results, contributing to case reviews and to care and discharge planning
- Follow how each patient is progressing and record clinical documentation correctly
- Administer treatments and medicines in line with clinical guidelines
- Step in with crisis intervention and give therapeutic support
- Coordinate with psychiatrists, medical officers and other health professionals across the team
- Educate and support patients, their families and carers as they plan for recovery
- Keep patients safe and meet clinical standards and mental health law, while maintaining confidentiality, ethics and professional conduct
- Take part in continuous quality improvement and keep up your own education and development
Requirements & Eligibility
- Bachelor of Nursing, or a recognised qualification that is equivalent
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse, or eligibility to obtain registration
- Minimum 2–3 years working in mental health nursing or in mental health clinical practice
- Strong grasp of psychiatric assessment and the principles of mental health care
- Sound understanding of Australian mental health legislation that applies, and of clinical practice standards
- Excellent communication and people skills
- Able to work well within a healthcare team made up of several disciplines
- Strong clinical judgement and problem-solving
- Dedicated to delivering high-quality care centred on the patient
- Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing will be highly regarded; prepared to relocate to Australia
