Mining Engineer

Position: Senior Mining Engineer within the short-term planning group. Your task is to take the mine's agreed strategies and break them down into clear plans the crews can actually deliver, so that production and development stay safe. You need a working knowledge of what happens underground and the confidence to use your engineering skills on mine design, drill and blast, production scheduling and operational issues as they come up.

Key Responsibilities
- Take charge of preparing and delivering the short-term underground plan, so wider strategy becomes practical work on the ground
- Create designs for development headings, production areas and underground infrastructure
- Improve mining sequence and operating results through sound engineering
- Draw up drill and blast designs, then refine them
- Assess stope layouts against near-term production targets
- Check plans with the operations crews so they are realistic, and help get production ready so scheduled activities are carried out well
- Flag risks and limits in the plan and spot where things could be done better
- Act as technical lead for the mining engineering team, coaching engineers, graduates and cadets
- Line up planning inputs for development, stoping, services, ventilation and backfill
- Work in mine planning software to turn out designs that are accurate and workable
- Keep improving the way mine planning and design are done
Requirements & Eligibility
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related field
- Minimum 6–8 years working as a mining engineer
- Strong hands-on background in underground hard rock mines, with experience you can prove is genuine and verifiable
- Proven record in short-term mine planning
- Demonstrated skill in operational mine design
- Strong drill and blast design background
- In-depth knowledge of stope design and mining sequence, and a good understanding of underground methods and production processes
- History of leading technically or mentoring junior engineers
- Skilled in Surpac, Vulcan, Datamine, Deswik or similar software
- Strong analysis, problem-solving and communication
- Works well with both technical staff and operations crews
