A permanent Mining Engineer (Medium Term Planning) opening is available at a large-scale underground zinc-lead-silver operation in Queensland, Australia. The mine has a long life and a complex sequence with multiple working fronts.

First, the role. You will develop and maintain the mine plans and schedules and improve them continuously, so production and development targets are met. Second, the planning scope. Your sequences must balance development, stoping, ventilation, backfill, services and infrastructure. Third, the work base. You can be Brisbane based, FIFO to the mine or residential at the mine. Visa sponsorship is available for suitably qualified candidates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Step one: put together the mine plans and schedules behind the production and development targets, then keep them maintained and improving.
  • Step two: take Life-of-Mine and long-range planning direction and convert it into workable medium-term mining sequences.
  • Step three: in every sequence, get stope extraction, development timing, ventilation availability and infrastructure readiness in balance.
  • Step four: pass the medium-term sequences down in a form ready to become short term plans.

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Mining Engineering or a related subject, studied to tertiary qualification level.
  • A demonstrated record in underground hard rock mining.
  • Preferably, earlier exposure in mine planning, scheduling or technical services positions.
  • Working knowledge of Surpac, Deswik or equivalent mine planning and design software, applied to schedule analysis, stope sequencing and development planning.
  • A strong grasp of production sequencing, development requirements and underground mining methods.
  • Capability to take operational, ventilation, geotechnical and geological constraints, interpret them and combine them into practical mine plans.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, used to judge planning risks, recognise constraints and work out practical solutions.
