Motor Mechanic

Wallan, Victoria: an automotive workshop with an established reputation is hiring a Motor Mechanic – Light Vehicle who can confidently service, diagnose and repair today's vehicles.

Priority: trade skills that can be verified and real time spent on the workshop floor. Expect to show a practical grasp of how vehicle systems work, accurate fault-finding, and repairs completed efficiently and safely.

Workshop profile: a broad mix of vehicles, with particular exposure to European makes and advanced diagnostics, so an experienced mechanic can put existing skills to use across different technologies and repair requirements.

Applicants in Pakistan should prepare an English résumé listing the vehicle makes they have worked on.

Key Responsibilities

  • Do routine services and preventative maintenance, covering oil and filter changes and general service steps
  • Use modern diagnostic tools to find electrical and mechanical faults, inspecting vehicle systems to trace the cause
  • Work on petrol engines and their components, servicing and repairing them
  • Inspect transmissions and carry out repairs on them
  • Repair and maintain steering, suspension and braking systems
  • Replace damaged, worn or defective mechanical components
  • Dismantle engines, transmissions and other assemblies for inspection
  • Complete mechanical repairs by following technical procedures, with manufacturer data and service information as your guide
  • Inspect each vehicle pre- and post-repair, and road test it to verify the work
  • Keep parts and job records accurate
  • Follow the workshop's quality and safety procedures
  • Keep work areas, equipment and tools organised and clean
  • Talk clearly with workshop colleagues about repairs and what each vehicle needs

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A recognised trade qualification (Motor Mechanic – Light Vehicle) or the equivalent
  • Minimum 12 months in an automotive workshop, in relevant work
  • Demonstrated hands-on servicing and repair of light vehicles, covering suspension, steering, braking systems, transmissions and engines
  • Practical knowledge of today's mechanical and electrical systems in vehicles, and strong skill at diagnosing faults and choosing the right repairs
  • Can follow manufacturer specifications and technical repair documentation
  • Strong eye for detail and committed to workmanship you can rely on
  • Holds a current driver's licence
  • Works well alone and in a team, communicating professionally with a positive attitude
  • Efficient under the pressure of a busy workshop floor
  • Highly regarded: European vehicle experience. Advantageous: experience with Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Skoda, Audi or Volkswagen
  • Willing and able to back up your qualifications and employment experience with evidence
  • Able to meet what is required for the sponsorship on offer
