Motor Mechanic

Key Responsibilities

  • Find faults in engines, steering, transmissions and other mechanical systems, using computerised diagnostic equipment to pinpoint mechanical and system problems
  • Examine components for damage, deterioration and faults
  • Take out and strip down transmissions, engines and other assemblies when the job calls for it
  • Rebuild, replace or repair worn and defective parts, finishing repairs to the required technical standards
  • Handle routine servicing and preventative maintenance, from oil changes and lubrication to tune-ups and scheduled procedures
  • Work from technical information and manufacturers' service specifications
  • Test and adjust repaired parts until they operate correctly
  • Inspect vehicles and identify the work needed to keep them roadworthy
  • Confirm each vehicle performs properly after servicing or repair
  • Keep the workshop organised, clean and safe
  • Cooperate with fellow technicians to get assigned jobs done efficiently
  • Produce dependable workmanship with vehicle safety and customer satisfaction in mind

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Qualification in Motor Mechanics, Automotive Technology or a related field at Certificate III or higher
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant automotive work at a professional level
  • Proven hands-on mechanical servicing and repair experience, plus strong troubleshooting and fault-diagnosis skills
  • Experience with computerised diagnostic systems for vehicles
  • Sound knowledge of transmissions, engines, steering and other mechanical systems, and able to work from manufacturer specifications and technical manuals
  • Strong practical problem-solving, with close attention to detail and quality workmanship
  • Able to work alone or as part of a professional workshop team
  • Good workplace and communication skills
  • Able to supply evidence of relevant employment experience and qualifications
  • Overseas applicants must be willing to go through the required assessment and recruitment process
  • Candidates must meet the relevant requirements of the applicable visa pathway
