Planner/ Architectural Draftsperson

The role: A multidisciplinary consultancy in Rockdale, Sydney is hiring a Planning / Architectural Draftsperson for a team that is still building up. The job is split between architectural drafting and planning and development application (DA) work.
The work in brief: you will record existing homes, including buildings that need reinstatement or redesign after fire, tree or vehicle damage. Expect to read on-site conditions correctly, produce clear drawings and link them to wider planning controls. Planning paperwork, DA preparation, coordination with consultants and portal lodgements also sit with this position.
Growth: responsibility starts on day one, with scope to move into a senior or lead position as your proven capability and the business expand.

Key Responsibilities
- Measure sites and convert existing conditions into detailed architectural drawings of residential and medium-density buildings
- Prepare preliminary plans and help pinpoint structural elements in the architectural set
- Draft professional 2D AutoCAD drawings in model space and paper space, following established drafting standards on every project
- Review drawings and documents for accuracy, completeness and consistency, and fix technical or documentation issues quickly
- Write Statements of Environmental Effects and other planning documents after assessing the relevant LEPs, DCPs and development controls
- Put together Development Application packages, lodge them through the planning portal and follow each DA as it progresses
- Act as the link between designers and specialist consultants in heritage, bushfire, stormwater, structural, civil, surveying and arboriculture
- Keep clients, consultants and colleagues informed of what each project needs
- Plan your own workload and deliver to agreed deadlines
- Suggest practical improvements as the consultancy grows
Requirements & Eligibility
- Demonstrated experience in architectural drafting, planning or a related professional field, backed by relevant qualifications and/or substantial practical industry experience (experienced architectural drafters are encouraged to apply)
- Proven 2D AutoCAD proficiency
- Hands-on experience drawing up existing buildings, including reading measurements and existing site conditions accurately
- Understanding of architectural documentation for residential and medium-density projects
- Experience preparing or supporting Development Applications, including planning documentation such as Statements of Environmental Effects
- Knowledge of NSW LEPs, DCPs and planning requirements
- Strong grasp of drafting standards and drawing office procedures
- High accuracy, close attention to detail and a strong ability to analyse information and solve technical problems
- Ability to coordinate effectively with multiple consultants and communicate well with clients and project stakeholders
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to own assigned work and operate with limited supervision
- Professional written and verbal English communication skills
- Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe applications
- Able to commence as soon as possible
