Registered Midwife

Setting: a private maternity service in Tasmania, based in Hobart TAS, where midwives sit at the centre of the care team.

Who it is for: committed, experienced Registered Midwives who want their clinical background, credentials and skills properly valued in a supportive maternity unit. Your identity as a midwife is treated as important here.

The work: caring for women and families through pregnancy, labour and the weeks after birth, side by side with seasoned health professionals.

Support offered: structured clinical backing, mentoring, professional development and the chance to deepen your maternity and newborn expertise.

Midwives applying from Pakistan should keep an English CV ready and sit an English test such as IELTS or PTE if one is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Give midwifery care that is safe, respectful and grounded in evidence, across the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal stages
  • Stay with women through labour and birth, honouring their personal wishes and care plans
  • Check and track the health of mothers and newborns, raising clinical concerns through the right channels whenever needed
  • Offer families and women emotional support and health education
  • Help with care of newborns, including breastfeeding support and early parenting needs
  • Keep clinical notes and patient records accurate and complete
  • Collaborate with obstetric, neonatal, nursing and allied health colleagues
  • Join clinical education sessions and continue your professional development, while helping build quality and a positive maternity environment
  • Guide graduate and student midwives where it is appropriate

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Current registration as a Registered Midwife with AHPRA, and the ability to meet Australian professional registration and employment requirements
  • Recognised Midwifery qualification
  • Demonstrated background delivering maternity care
  • Strong commitment to practice that is evidence-based and woman-centred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team spanning several disciplines
  • Committed to keeping clinical competencies and professional knowledge up to date
  • Birth suite, antenatal, postnatal or special care nursery experience is highly regarded
  • Able to work permanent full-time, part-time or casual hours; eligible onshore applicants requiring visa sponsorship will be considered
