Registered Teacher

An early learning service in New Plymouth, Taranaki has a career opening for a Qualified and Registered Early Childhood Education Teacher who genuinely loves working with infants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shape care around what each infant needs individually, responding respectfully and supporting routines for comfort, sleep, care and wellbeing
  • Develop trusting, meaningful bonds with tamariki and whanau, and stay in regular, professional contact with whanau
  • Set up a space for infants that is safe, stimulating and welcoming
  • Plan experiences that invite infants to explore and develop
  • Watch closely for children's developmental progress, behaviours and interests, then let those observations guide planning and intentional teaching
  • Record learning stories, assessments and other documentation accurately
  • Affirm the backgrounds, cultures, languages and identities of all tamariki, with culturally responsive approaches built into daily teaching
  • Grow your bicultural practice, honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Partner with colleagues to hold education and care to a high standard, contributing to a team that is collaborative, positive and respectful
  • Join centre activities, team discussions, meetings and daily operations
  • Look back on your teaching often and pinpoint where it can improve
  • Commit to professional learning and to a culture of continuous development

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Recognised Early Childhood Education qualification
  • New Zealand Teacher Practising Certificate, full and current
  • Experience in early childhood education that is relevant, particularly with infants, plus a strong grasp of responsive caregiving and how infants learn and develop
  • Genuinely passionate about supporting young children and babies
  • Demonstrated ability to form positive relationships with whanau and tamariki
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • Confidence across observation, assessment, planning and documentation
  • Can demonstrate culturally responsive teaching practice, with commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and bicultural practice
  • Calm, adaptable, organised, reflective and professional, and effective as a member of an education team
  • Prepared to undertake ongoing professional development
  • Candidates who need visa sponsorship and accredited employment may be considered
  • Applicants must satisfy the relevant New Zealand immigration, registration and employment requirements
