Sous Chef

This Clarence Park kitchen lets you progress as a chef while keeping your evenings free.
- Hours: 38 hours over five days, mainly morning and lunch service, with most shifts ending around 3:30pm.
- Food: a distinctive mix of deli, café and sandwich-style dishes, giving plenty of variety and room for creativity.
- Who they want: an experienced Chef de Partie or emerging Sous Chef ready for more responsibility in a fresh, energetic South Australian food operation.
The role is hands-on. You will work closely with the Head Chef, act independently, help push the kitchen forward and, at times, take charge and make the calls during service.

Key Responsibilities
- Work alongside the Head Chef to keep daily kitchen operations running smoothly, and take ownership of service when needed
- Run your section confidently with minimal supervision
- Complete prep and mise en place ahead of service
- Cook efficiently to established recipes and quality standards, keeping flavour, presentation and portion sizes consistent and food presented to a high standard
- Put forward ideas for dishes, specials and kitchen improvements
- Track ingredient usage and help reduce food wastage
- Help with stock management and kitchen ordering
- Meet food safety and hygiene requirements and keep kitchen areas clean, organised and ready for service
- Stay efficient and calm through busy periods
- Communicate clearly with the Head Chef and the wider kitchen team
- Back up less experienced team members where required
- Take responsibility for keeping standards high throughout service
Requirements & Eligibility
- Previous experience as a Chef de Partie, Sous Chef or in a similar commercial kitchen role
- Commercial kitchen experience gained in a café, restaurant, bistro, deli or comparable setting
- Strong cooking, preparation and kitchen organisation skills, with the ability to run a kitchen section independently and confidently
- Demonstrated ability to follow recipes and produce consistent results
- Close attention to food quality, presentation and detail
- Able to stay organised and composed in busy services
- A reliable, dependable approach to work and a positive attitude with a willingness to take responsibility
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Leadership potential and the confidence to make decisions when required
- Relevant culinary qualifications are advantageous
- Commitment to full-time employment and willingness to complete the required 6-month trial period
