Support Worker/Life Facilitator

Role: Life Facilitator (Support Worker) in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, assisting a very driven client with tetraplegia alongside an established round-the-clock (24/7) crew.
Purpose of the role: more than providing care. You will enable the client to live independently, remain physically and socially active, and manage day-to-day personal, career and family responsibilities. Quality support is built on being trusted, being consistent and owning your actions.
Kind of person needed: dependable and capable, focused on people, a confident communicator and respectful within a structured roster. Following routines, showing initiative and building professional trust matter just as much as practical caring skills.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with personal care and everything involved in daily living
- Keep the client's established routines and timetable running, with practical help across the day
- Be a reliable part of the coordinated 24/7 roster, relaying key updates clearly to colleagues
- Help the client manage job and career commitments plus family activities
- Drive and accompany the client to appointments and outings, and help during travel when needed
- Provide friendly company and encourage social engagement
- Carry out support in line with the agreed procedures and the client's own care plan
- Communicate respectfully and keep professional boundaries
- Respond well to changing needs and situations, using your initiative to solve everyday problems
- Work rostered day, afternoon, evening and overnight shifts, plus sleepovers as required
- Complete training designed for this role
- Be dependable in attendance and consistent in the support you give
- Contribute to a setting that stays safe, upbeat and respectful
Requirements & Eligibility
- Previous disability support, healthcare, personal care or community support experience preferred
- Minimum NZQA Health and Wellbeing Level 3, or willingness to work towards gaining it
- Holding a valid driver's licence is essential
- Proven reliability and conduct that is professional, honest and trustworthy
- Strong communication and people skills
- A warm, positive and engaging nature
- Good judgement and plain common sense, keeping a level head when circumstances shift
- High personal accountability
- Collaborates well inside a 24/7 support team
- Carries out care plans, routines and instructions precisely
- Ready to roll up your sleeves and help practically
- Adaptable when schedules or support requirements change
- Can cover day, afternoon and evening shifts as well as overnight sleepovers
- Can work at least two weekend shifts in every month
- Can commit to approximately 35 hours a week, spread over approximately 2–4 rostered shifts a week
- Keen to undertake training and grow your support skills, always respecting the client's priorities, privacy and independence
- Overseas candidates who need an employer-supported work visa may be considered, subject to eligibility
