Switchboard Electrician & HV/MV Electrical Engineer

The employer: a growing Australian electrical engineering and manufacturing business in Loganholme, Brisbane, which is adding to its technical workforce.
The work: specialised projects across LV, MV and HV power infrastructure in Queensland, delivering sophisticated electrical equipment and power-system projects.
Two roles are open:
- Switchboard Electrician, focused on assembly, testing and commissioning
- HV/MV Electrical Engineer, focused on switchboards and power systems
Both suit experienced professionals ready for a more specialised setting. Read each list of requirements carefully, and if an English test such as IELTS or PTE is needed for your application, plan for it early.
Key Responsibilities
- Switchboard Electrician
- Before switchboards leave for delivery and installation, put LV, MV and HV units through testing, and check transportable switchrooms and switchboards for mechanical and electrical compliance
- Run continuity, insulation resistance, earth continuity, phase rotation and polarity tests
- Check operational functions and control circuits, and confirm protection relays and their associated systems work correctly
- Track down functional, electrical and wiring faults and fix them
- Build and alter control panels, MCCs and switchboards
- Work from wiring drawings, single line diagrams and electrical schematics
- Carry out Factory Acceptance Testing, log the results and produce commissioning documents
- Keep all work in line with project specifications and relevant Australian Standards
- Support commissioning and installation on site, plus after-hours and shutdown commissioning projects when required
- Guide apprentices and junior electrical team members on technical matters
- HV/MV Electrical Engineer – Switchboards & Power Systems
- Provide engineering support for MV and HV electrical infrastructure such as substations, switchgear, switchboards and transportable electrical systems
- Play a part in protection and control and power distribution projects, helping complex electrical infrastructure projects reach successful delivery
- Go through electrical drawings, specifications and other technical documents
- Back production and manufacturing teams with technical support, and team up with commissioning and testing staff to sort out technical issues
- Contribute to engineering solutions on industrial and infrastructure projects
- Work to relevant Australian Standards and the requirements of each project
- Liaise with quality, production, engineering and project management teams
- Look into technical problems and come up with practical fixes
- Help improve engineering processes and optimise projects
Requirements & Eligibility
- Switchboard Electrician
- Queensland Electrical Work Licence, current, as an Electrical Mechanic or Electrical Fitter
- Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician or Electrical Fitting
- Industrial switchboard manufacturing, testing or commissioning: minimum 3 years of experience
- Strong practical background with MCCs and LV switchboards, and experience in fault finding, commissioning and electrical testing
- MV/HV equipment knowledge or experience will be highly regarded, and industrial control systems experience is advantageous
- Reads single line diagrams, wiring diagrams and schematics with confidence
- Knowledge of AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 61439 and other relevant Australian Standards
- CPR/LVR certification that is current
- Safety and quality are a strong focus in your electrical work
- Comfortable in site and workshop settings, and willing to travel from time to time for project and commissioning needs
- HV/MV Electrical Engineer
- Australian registration as an Electrical Engineer
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a relevant industry
- Experience with MV and/or HV electrical systems, for example power distribution, protection and control, substations, switchgear or switchboards
- Can interpret engineering specifications and electrical drawings
- Strong skills in problem-solving and technical analysis
- Understands the applicable Australian Standards
- Works across testing, manufacturing, engineering and project environments, collaborating well with manufacturing and engineering teams
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Applications are welcome from candidates who currently hold a Subclass 482 visa
