Workshop Technician

Location: Papakura, Auckland. Employer: a verified business in engineering and metal fabrication. Role: an experienced Fitter & CNC Machine Operator, hired as a Workshop Technician.
This is not a narrow machine-minding job. You will run CNC machines, but also handle fitting, assembly, fabrication and daily job coordination, owning production jobs so they are accurate, organised and finished on time. Expect to read engineering drawings, understand what manufacturing requires, line up the workshop tasks and make sure parts are properly prepared for installation. It suits an experienced all-rounder who wants to use their skills across the whole job process.

Key Responsibilities
- Go through engineering drawings and job specs to confirm materials, dimensions, tolerances and assembly needs
- Organise workshop jobs and set production priorities
- Run CNC equipment and general metal fabrication machinery
- Fit, assemble and fabricate items to the required specifications, with basic MIG and TIG welding when needed
- Measure and inspect finished parts for accuracy, and sort out any fabrication problems before dispatch
- Get fabricated items and materials ready for site installation, making sure site teams receive the right components, fasteners and materials
- Keep communication clear with staff in the workshop and on site
- Look after workshop machinery and equipment
- Encourage safe, efficient and organised work habits, and keep cleanliness, quality and safety standards high
- Visit installation sites now and then to help with fitting
Requirements & Eligibility
- Strong background in engineering, metal fabrication or workshop operations
- Experience running CNC machinery as well as common fabrication machinery and engineering tools
- Can read and interpret engineering drawings without close supervision
- Strong experience in fitting and assembly
- Has coordinated or taken responsibility for workshop jobs
- Basic TIG and MIG welding skills
- Excellent measuring skills and attention to detail, with an understanding of work sequencing and fabrication processes
- Strong practical problem-solving, and able to work independently and manage priorities
- Good teamwork and communication
- Committed to safety, quality and accurate workmanship
- Experience with tube laser cutting, CNC laser cutting, press brakes, drilling or grinding equipment will be highly regarded
- Available to start immediately or almost immediately; employer-supported visa sponsorship may be available for eligible applicants
