A Heavy Excavator Operator position in Auckland, New Zealand, is open on a permanent, full-time basis.
First, the setting. The employer runs a scrap metal recycling yard with a strong focus on safe, efficient output. Second, the machine. You will operate a 30-tonne tracked excavator with three attachments: shear, grapple and magnet. Third, the scope. You handle the whole process, from reducing heavy steel to loading export containers.
Hours start at 30 per week and regularly reach 50. The employer also notes potential AEWV sponsorship support for highly qualified international applicants who are onshore or ready to move.

Key Responsibilities
- Start by reducing car bodies, machines and structural steel with the hydraulic shear
- Next, sort metals by grapple and feed the baler and shredder
- Then stockpile ferrous scrap with the magnet and keep lanes clear
- Each day, complete pre-start checks and look after hydraulic lines at each attachment swap
- Finally, load bulk containers for export
Requirements & Eligibility
- 30-tonne-plus excavator experience from a scrap metal yard, heavy demolition or quarry environment
- Direct and confident operation of hydraulic shear, grapple and magnet (essential)
- Valid NZ Class 1 licence and WTR endorsement (highly preferred)
- Clear spatial awareness around moving trucks, equipment and ground staff, and the ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
