This is a General Manager job for a large hostel and hotel property opening in Auckland, New Zealand. The employer is a group with hostels, hybrid hotel-hostel properties and food and beverage venues across Australia and New Zealand.
First, the scope. You hold full oversight of the site, and four heads report to you: Host, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage and Maintenance. Second, accountability: guest experience, team culture, financial results and compliance. Third, timing: a January 2027 start is the aim, with the opening scheduled for March.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the full property, with the Host, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage and Maintenance heads reporting to you
- Manage guest experience and team culture
- Manage financial performance, standards and compliance
- Set up the operation and the leadership team with the wider team before opening, and build the culture from plans to opening
Requirements & Eligibility
- Experience running a busy hotel or hostel operation
- Understanding of lodging, yield management and what drives commercial performance
- Comfortable with budgets, labour, revenue and cost control
- Some food and beverage exposure, ideally across bars, restaurants or busy social venues
- Knowledge of the Auckland hospitality and lodging scene: helpful but not essential
- A cover letter is required
